Minister Dody: Waskita's People's School Project Shows Good Progress
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo inspected the development of the People’s School (SR) Phase II in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday (12/04), to ensure the work is proceeding according to the completion target of 20 June 2026.
To date, the physical progress of the construction has reached around 45% with work quality assessed as good. The construction work is supported by 571 workers who are continuously optimised to accelerate completion.
“The progress in Surabaya is good, around 45% and the quality is also good. Overall, the SR construction work carried out by Waskita Karya and its partners is progressing well. In Sampang Regency, it’s almost 40%. There are indeed other locations that are still lagging, but overall it remains under control and is being pursued,” said Dody, quoted on Monday (13/4/2026).
Dody emphasised that the People’s School construction is part of the government’s priority programme to improve human resources through the provision of decent and integrated education.
“This is the President’s priority programme to eradicate extreme poverty through decent education, especially for children from underprivileged families. The way is by schooling their children in proper and good schools, with boarding facilities, uniforms, and nutritious food,” he added.
The People’s School Phase II in Surabaya is located in Kedung Cowek Village, Bulak Subdistrict, and is built on a land area of about 6.6 hectares with land use rights status from the Surabaya City Government. The project is carried out by the contractor Waskita Karya-CAG KSO through the East Java Strategic Infrastructure Implementation Work Unit.
The facilities being built include classrooms for primary, secondary, and high school levels with a capacity of up to 1,000 students, as well as student dormitories, teacher housing, a mosque, a multipurpose building, a canteen, clean water installations, and sports facilities such as basketball and mini soccer fields.
Dody stressed the importance of maintaining the commitment to completing the work so that the construction can be accelerated and the facilities can be utilised as soon as possible for the new academic year.
“I ask all parties to maintain their commitment so that the construction can be completed on time. Insyaallah, if the progress is as good as this, it will be completed before 20 June. Thus, from 1 July, these facilities can already be used for teaching and learning activities,” Dody asserted.
Dody also reminded the importance of strengthening coordination and field supervision to ensure work quality is maintained and no delays occur.
“For those that are still lagging, they must be caught up immediately with concrete steps on the ground, including adding workers and strengthening supervision,” he stated.
“The Ministry of Public Works is committed to continuing to oversee the People’s School construction in various regions so that it can be completed on time and provide optimal benefits for the community,” he concluded.
