Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has stated that toilet facilities in schools included in the rehabilitation and renovation project of the Best Results Fast Programme (PHTC) must be given attention as they are a basic necessity. “What must not be forgotten and is often left behind is precisely the toilets, the bathrooms, because it is frequently found that schools do not have proper toilets,” said AHY in Bogor City, West Java, on Friday. AHY said that school or madrasah infrastructure currently under PHTC must pay attention to fundamental needs such as toilets, clean water and environmental sanitation. “School infrastructure is not only the core buildings such as classrooms, laboratories, and libraries, but also the ecosystem and supporting facilities,” he said. AHY added that the government is also paying attention to areas that are truly in need, such as the 3T regions—outermost, frontier, and disadvantaged—including border areas. According to AHY, conditions in these areas are generally the ones most in need of attention and assistance from the Central Government. “We want to improve the quality of education. So later, the available budget allocated can be focused on improving facilities that are fundamental in nature,” he said. AHY stated that the PHTC Madrasah rehabilitation and renovation project targets 1,397 schools across Indonesia with a budget reaching Rp4 trillion. AHY said that PHTC is Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 7 of 2025 concerning the Acceleration of the Implementation of Development and Revitalisation Programmes for Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, and Secondary Education Units, the Development and Management of Garuda Superior Senior High Schools, and the Digitalisation of Learning.
