The Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Agus Andrianto, became the first minister to visit the Class II Ciangir Open Prison on Jalan Raya Ciangir, Legok, Tangerang Regency, Banten. Minister Agus stated that his visit was part of a surprise inspection of the prison. “This is a surprise inspection because this is the open prison closest to Jakarta. Perhaps this is the first time a minister has visited,” Agus told reporters while asking a local prison officer, on Tuesday (24 February 2026). Several officers confirmed Minister Agus’s statement. “This is the first time a minister has come here,” said one of the officers. For information, the Class II Ciangir Open Prison was established in 2019. Its area covers 23 hectares. Because it is an open prison, the inmates here are those who are undergoing the assimilation phase. According to data from today, the number of inmates undergoing the assimilation process at the Ciangir Open Prison is 19. During this inspection, Minister Agus said that the idle land in the prison had been utilised by the inmates. According to Agus, the government is providing capital assistance for the rice planting process on the land. “(The results of the inspection) show that some of the idle land has been utilised. However, the recent floods caused some of the rice harvest to fail. We are providing capital and motivation for the inmates to plant again. I also asked for the cleanliness of the prison to be improved,” explained Minister Agus. Previously, it was reported that Minister Agus encouraged prisons to maximise the use of land for facilities to support food security for inmates. As observed by detikcom at the location, Minister Agus saw the poultry and cattle farms that were being developed by the prison authorities. Minister Agus, accompanied by the Director General of Correctional Services, Mashudi, then inspected the rice fields cultivated by the inmates, which were flooded due to extreme weather. (aud/wnv)
