Military police chief installed
JAKARTA (JP): Greater Jakarta Military Commander Maj. Gen. Sutiyoso installed Lt. Col. Subagya Jiwapraja, a former Bogor Military Police detachment commander, as the new detachment commander of the Jakarta Military Garrison yesterday.
Subagya replaced Lt. Col. Otte Ruchiyat, who will be promoted to deputy commander of Presidential Security Squad's Group C.
Sutiyoso ordered the new detachment commander yesterday to continue to take stern measures against Armed Forces (ABRI) members who frequent prohibited places, including red light districts, discotheques and entertainment centers.
On July 5, the Jakarta Military Garrison arrested 34 soldiers in an operation at discotheques and entertainment centers throughout the city.
Sutiyoso said the main goal of the operation was to net soldiers who were believed to give protection to the discotheques and entertainment centers.
Many entertainment centers in the city have turned into drug trafficking places and gambling dens, he said. (jun)
