Migrant CARE Urges Government to Protect Indonesian Migrant Workers Amid Middle East War Escalation
Migrant CARE has expressed deep concern over the outbreak of war in the Middle East region. The organisation views this situation as potentially triggering a humanitarian crisis and endangering the safety of Indonesian migrant workers.
Wahyu Susilo, Executive Director of Migrant CARE, emphasised that war and the use of weapons constitute actions that can result in humanitarian crises and reflect an arrogance of power.
As an organisation advocating for migrant workers, Migrant CARE assesses that the escalation of conflict in the Middle East can have a direct impact on hundreds of thousands of migrant workers located in the region.
“Conditions full of uncertainty, feelings of fear, and work locations in proximity to conflict zones place migrant workers in unsafe situations and under constant threat,” he stated in a press release received on Sunday, 1 March.
In response to this situation, Migrant CARE is urging the Indonesian Government to immediately ensure the condition of Indonesian migrant workers in affected areas. The Government is asked to open information and complaint channels in conflict-affected regions, provide regular information updates, and prepare steps and contingency plans to guarantee the safety of Indonesian migrant workers in the Middle East.
