Middle East Tensions Rise: Commission I DPR Urges Indonesia to Strengthen Diplomatic Communications
Deputy Chair of Commission I of the House of Representatives Dave Laksono expressed concern over the escalation of conflict in the Middle East following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a result of a combined attack by the United States and Israel. Dave urged the Indonesian government to take concrete steps immediately.
“It is crucial for the Indonesian government to take concrete steps promptly, including strengthening diplomatic communications with friendly nations, intensifying coordination with the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation,” Dave told journalists on Monday (2 March 2026).
Dave emphasised that the government needs to prepare protection schemes for Indonesian citizens in conflict zones. The Indonesian government, he added, also needs to protect national interests.
“As well as preparing protection mechanisms for Indonesian citizens located in affected regions. These efforts must be viewed as part of Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining world peace whilst safeguarding national interests,” said the Golkar politician.
Furthermore, Dave urged the Indonesian government to conduct coordination at ministerial level effectively to address the possibility of the conflict spreading. He emphasised that efforts to protect Indonesian citizens must become a priority for the government.
“Protection of Indonesian citizens in affected regions must be placed as a top priority through evacuation measures, intensive communications, and strengthening diplomatic networks in relevant countries,” he said.
At the conclusion of his statement, Dave called on the government to carry out diplomatic steps with caution and in accordance with the principle of independence and active foreign policy. He hoped the government would be able to demonstrate genuine commitment to world peace.
“Commission I of the House of Representatives affirms that all diplomatic and anticipatory steps undertaken by the government must be carried out with utmost caution, consistency, and based on the principle of free and active foreign policy. Indonesia is expected to play a constructive role in easing tensions, safeguarding national interests, whilst demonstrating genuine commitment to world peace,” he concluded.
