Middle East Tensions Rise as Pakistan Deploys 8,000 Troops and Chinese-Designed Air Defence Systems to Saudi Arabia
Tensions in the Middle East are increasingly volatile. Pakistan has deployed 8,000 soldiers, one squadron of fighter jets, and Chinese-made air defence systems to Saudi Arabia as part of a mutual defence pact with the Kingdom. Reuters reported this on Monday.
βThe deployment increases the number of Pakistani troops and military assets in the Kingdom, beginning in early April,β Reuters reported.
Pakistan has deployed one squadron comprising around 16 aircraft, most of which are JF-17 fighters produced in partnership with China. In addition, Pakistan has deployed HQ-9 air defence systems made by China.
The presence of Chinese-made weapons in Saudi Arabia overlaps with high-tech systems operated by the United States in the country.
Saudi Arabia has Patriot and THAAD air defence systems. In fact, the Kingdom has the largest Patriot interceptor stockpile in the Gulf.
