Middle East Tensions Escalate; Mega Insurance Reaffirms Customer Protection Commitment
PT Asuransi Umum Mega (“Mega Insurance”) has expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East region, which continues to pose potential risks to international travel activities and global commerce.
This situation warrants particular attention for Mega Insurance customers, especially holders of cargo insurance, international health insurance, and travel insurance policies, including pilgrimage travel policies for the Umrah pilgrimage.
Risks arising from geopolitical conflicts such as war can affect various activities, including potential disruptions to logistics distribution, access to international medical services or healthcare, travel delays and cancellations, and changes to international flight schedules.
According to the terms of policies issued by Mega Insurance, risks resulting from war conditions, including cancellations or delays to departures or flights as a consequence of such situations, are generally not covered under the policy’s protection scope. Coverage for such risks can only be provided if the customer has previously added extension coverage in accordance with policy terms.
However, considering the circumstances and potential schedule adjustments for travel to and from the Middle East region, particularly for Umrah pilgrimage travel to the Holy Land, Mega Insurance (Sharia Business Unit) is implementing a special policy offering adjusted policy periods for customers experiencing changes to their departure schedules. This adjustment can be made by changing the policy period dates to align with the latest departure schedule.
“The conflict occurring in the Middle East is certainly a matter of shared concern,” said Indrajaya Wardhana, Technical Insurance Deputy Director. “Beyond affecting regional stability, this situation also has the potential to impact international travel and trade activities. As an insurance company, we have a responsibility to provide policy clarity to customers whilst presenting solutions adaptive to evolving conditions.”
The role of the insurance industry becomes increasingly important amidst global dynamics full of uncertainty. Insurance functions not only as a financial protection instrument but also as a partner helping customers manage risks more prudently and strategically.
Mega Insurance also emphasises that all insurance products marketed by the company have received authorisation and are under the supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), ensuring customers receive transparent and accountable protection in accordance with applicable Indonesian regulatory provisions. Further information regarding products and services can be accessed through the Mega Insurance official website.
Going forward, the company will continue monitoring global developments and coordinate with relevant parties to ensure service readiness for its customers. Mega Insurance hopes conditions in the Middle East region improve soon so that travel activities, trade, and the performance of the Umrah pilgrimage for Indonesian Muslims can resume comfortably, smoothly, and with blessings.
