Middle East Tensions: Bahlil Ensures Subsidised Fuel Prices Will Not Rise Ahead of Eid al-Fitr
Jakarta — Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has assured that subsidised fuel prices will not rise ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, or Lebaran 2026. The commitment was conveyed ahead of a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. ‘Regarding subsidised fuel prices, I can confirm there will be no rise up to and including the holiday. Even if oil prices rise due to the conflict involving Israel, the United States and Iran,’ Bahlil told reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday. ‘As for non-subsidised fuel, that is a market mechanism, and that follows the 2022 ministerial regulation from the ESDM,’ he added. On that occasion, Bahlil also assured that stockpiles of fuel and LPG remain secure even as tensions in the Middle East intensify. ‘Our fuel stocks ahead of Eid al-Fitr, God willing, will all be safe, including LPG. So there is no cause for doubt, even though there are global dynamics in Iran and Israel,’ Bahlil said. The remarks were made by Almuzzammil Yusuf, president of the Justice and Prosperity Party (PKS), after attending a meeting between Prabowo and former presidents and vice presidents, diplomat figures, and the party’s general chairman, on Tuesday night (3 March 2025). ‘The gist is how prepared we are to face the crisis. He explained preparedness for food, energy, and elite-level dialogue,’ Almuzzammil said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta, as quoted by Kompas TV. In the discussion, Prabowo is said to have noted that the ‘Board of Peace’ may not be an ideal option but is viewed as the most realistic path to push for long-term peace in Palestine. ‘From Pak Prabowo’s explanation about the Board of Peace, that may be the explanation he has given to MUI and Islamic organisations,’ Almuzzammil said.
