Middle East Conflict Triggers Energy Price Surge; InJourney Airports Monitors Potential Airline Ticket Fare Increases
Jakarta – The airport operator PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, or InJourney Airports, is monitoring developments in fuel price movements that could increase due to conflict in the Middle East region.
The rise in global energy prices is feared to have an impact on the aviation industry, including the potential for airlines to adjust ticket fares.
Achmad Syahir, Deputy Chief Executive of InJourney Airports, stated that to date there are no formal plans from airlines to increase ticket prices due to surging fuel costs.
He explained that global geopolitical dynamics require all players in the aviation industry to be more vigilant in anticipating various possibilities, including impacts on operational costs.
According to Achmad, airport operators are also experiencing potential impacts from rising energy prices because airport operations depend on fuel such as diesel.
“From the airport perspective, it is also a concern, because airport operations have fuel requirements such as diesel and other materials. This is also a concern for us,” he said.
For this reason, InJourney Airports has conducted internal discussions to prepare anticipatory measures should global conditions worsen.
“We have already conducted internal discussions regarding how to mitigate risks and prepare various scenarios, even up to worst-case conditions,” said Achmad.
Nevertheless, he emphasised that any decision regarding potential ticket fare adjustments is entirely in the hands of airlines.
“If it concerns airlines’ plans to increase ticket fares, it might be more appropriate to ask the airlines directly,” he stated firmly.
