Middle East Conflict Drives Up Plastic Prices, Government Seeks Solutions
Jakarta – State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has commented on the sharp rise in plastic prices on the market due to the escalation of conflict in the Middle East.
Prasetyo explained that the government recognises how global geopolitics affects supply chains and commodity prices domestically.
“What happens in other places will influence us here and affect many sectors. If we talked about the fuel sector earlier, fuel prices, then many other commodities are ultimately also impacted, one of which is the plastic issue,” said Prasetyo to reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
Regarding this, Prasetyo emphasised that the government is not standing idle. The government, he said, continuously monitors commodity prices every day.
“So we in the government continuously monitor every day all commodities affected by price increases in the world,” he stated.
Moreover, Prasetyo noted that cross-ministry coordination is ongoing to devise mitigation measures against the price hikes.
“Including this morning, we also coordinated with the Minister of Trade, coordinated with the Minister of Industry, and coordinated with the Minister of Economy, on how to continue monitoring and finding solutions to all problems that impact our society,” he explained.
In addition, Prasetyo expressed hope that the escalation of conflict in the Middle East will continue to subside so that domestic commodity prices return to normal.
“So we hope that the escalation subsides so that global supply prices return to normal,” Prasetyo concluded.
