The United States and Israel launched military strikes against Iran, resulting in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Several Middle Eastern countries have been caught in the crossfire of this conflict.

As widely reported, the US and Israel attacked Iranian territory on Saturday, 28 February 2026. Dozens of bombs reportedly struck Khamenei’s residence complex in Tehran.

Iran subsequently carried out retaliatory strikes against the US and Israel, impacting several Middle Eastern nations including Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). These countries were affected because they host American military bases or military assets.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that 27 US military bases exist across the Middle East, along with Israel’s Tel Nof Air Base, Israeli military command headquarters at HaKirya in Tel Aviv, and major defence industry complexes in the same city, all of which were targeted.

United Arab Emirates

Multiple locations across the UAE became targets of Iranian retaliatory strikes due to the presence of US military bases. One location hit by Iranian missiles was Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport. The strike reportedly killed one person and wounded seven others.

Additionally, Dubai International Airport was attacked. Damage occurred in one terminal lounge, and four staff members were reported injured. Strikes also hit Jebel Ali Port and the Palm Jumeirah area.

Bahrain

Bahrain News Agency reported on Saturday, 28 February 2026, that the Fifth Fleet Service Centre of the US Navy in Bahrain also became a target of Iranian missile strikes, according to CNN and The Guardian.

The US Embassy in Bahrain was subsequently closed. The embassy cancelled all scheduled activities for 1 March.

Qatar

Iran also launched strikes against Doha, Qatar, on Saturday, 28 February evening Doha time. Iranian missiles reportedly damaged radar systems at Al Udeid military base near Doha.

“Qatar was targeted by 44 missiles and eight drones, with eight people wounded including one in critical condition,” a diplomat told AFP on Sunday, 1 March 2026.

Kuwait

The Guardian reported that a series of explosions also occurred in Kuwait, which hosts several US military bases. An estimated 13,500 American troops are deployed in the country.

Iraq

The AFP news agency reported that loud explosions were heard on Sunday, 1 March morning near Erbil Airport. The location serves as headquarters for the US-led coalition forces in the autonomous Kurdish region of Iraq. Thick black smoke billowed from the airport area.

Jordan

Iranian missiles also entered Jordanian airspace. Jordan intercepted missiles entering its territory as air raid sirens sounded across Israel.

According to Al Jazeera, it was reported on Sunday, 1 March 2026 that Jordan’s defence system intercepted missiles entering the airspace above the capital, Amman. Jordan also intercepted missiles entering northern areas.
