REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The drug war taking place in Mexico is ‘beneficial’ for Indonesia. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) states that the drug war is having an impact on the supply of illicit goods to Indonesia. The Head of the BNN, Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, said that the drug supply chain to Indonesia partly originates from Mexico, or what is known as the Golden Peacock network. “The ongoing conflict between drug cartels in Mexico is, to some extent, affecting the narcotics supply chain in Indonesia,” said Suyudi in a press release received by reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday (24 February 2026). Suyudi revealed that drug traffickers in Indonesia are seeking the most economical and safe alternative supply chains. In its investigations so far, the BNN has identified three main routes for the supply of these illicit goods to Indonesia. “The narcotics supply chain to Indonesia involves international networks, primarily from the Golden Triangle, Golden Crescent, and Golden Peacock,” said Suyudi. These illicit drug trafficking networks use sea routes as the main gateway to Indonesia. The Golden Triangle network includes Myanmar, northern Thailand, and northern Laos. This region is the main source of synthetic drug production, especially the largest methamphetamine production in Southeast Asia. The Golden Crescent network is a source of supply from the regions of Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan. This region is a major supplier of drugs, and the production of opium and heroin. Finally, the Golden Peacock network is the largest supplier and production area for drugs in South America, particularly Mexico and Brazil. From this region, the main source of cocaine and methamphetamine, or ‘sabu-sabu’, comes. See this post on Instagram.
