Jakarta, VIVA – Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the PKB faction, Oleh Soleh, has spoken about the tense situation in Jalisco, Mexico, following the death of the leader of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generation (CJNG) drug cartel, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho”.

The incident has triggered an escalation of violence in several areas of Jalisco. The cartel groups are reportedly venting their anger through brutal acts, which has worsened the security situation and caused fear among the public.

According to preliminary data, there are approximately 45 Indonesian citizens currently living in Jalisco.

In this regard, Oleh Soleh emphasised that the safety and security of all Indonesian citizens in Mexico must be the government’s top priority.

“The situation in Jalisco is very worrying. The state must be present to ensure that all Indonesian citizens are safe. Their safety is a non-negotiable priority,” said Oleh Soleh in a statement on Wednesday, 25 February 2026.

He requested that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Indonesian Embassy in Mexico, continue to maintain intensive communication with all Indonesian citizens who are in the middle of the armed conflict between the military and members of the drug cartel.

Oleh Soleh also urged the embassy to increase real-time monitoring of the situation, update data on the location of Indonesian citizens, and ensure that easily accessible emergency communication channels are available.

“The embassy must actively reach out and ensure the condition of each Indonesian citizen. If the situation becomes increasingly uncontrollable, the government needs to immediately prepare for an evacuation to a safer place,” he said.

Furthermore, he advised Indonesian citizens in Jalisco to remain calm, avoid high-risk areas, limit outdoor activities, and always follow the instructions of local authorities and Indonesian representatives.

Commission I of the DPR RI will continue to monitor the development of the situation and coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure maximum protection for all Indonesian citizens in the affected areas.

“The state must not be complacent. In a conflict situation like this, the speed of response and coordination is key to protecting our citizens abroad,” he concluded.
