Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate has announced that it will implement traffic engineering in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, which is the venue for the May Day or International Labour Day commemoration on Friday (1/5). “We will carry out traffic flow engineering on a situational basis,” said the Director of Traffic for Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Pol Komarudin, in Jakarta on Thursday. He explained that several traffic engineering measures will be implemented, starting from diversions or closures of access to the Monas area if certain road sections and vehicle volumes become congested. “In that case, we will carry out diversions or even closures if necessary,” he said. However, Komarudin hopes it will not come to closures, so the security concept begins with the green zone, yellow zone, red zone, and does not escalate further. “Yes, we hope we can stay in the green zone, meaning that all road sections can still be used for the circulation of movement for two-wheeled vehicles, four-wheeled vehicles, and buses of participants who will enter later,” he said. He added that the yellow zone will be implemented when the situation on Jalan Merdeka Barat, Timur, Utara, and Selatan roads becomes extremely congested due to potential density. Officers will apply the yellow zone by diverting from Sarinah, Tugu Tani, and Harmoni. “This will already start to be diverted or have its volume reduced to anticipate increasingly long and prolonged congestion,” he said. Meanwhile, the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate is deploying 1,793 personnel to escort the International Labour Day or May Day implementation centred in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/5). The total number of workers participating in the International Labour Day event in the Monas area is estimated to reach 200,000 people, with around 4,000 bus units expected to enter Jakarta for the Labour Day commemoration tomorrow. “Based on the latest data we received, more than 200,000 workers will come to Monas, and there are several groups that may carry out activities at several points in Jakarta,” he said.
