Metro Police Chief and Environment Minister Lead Community Cleanup Drive to Realise 'Bang Jasri' Initiative
An unusual sight emerged at Kramat Jati Market in East Jakarta this morning. Metro Jaya Police Chief Irjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri, Environment Minister Hanif Faisol, and Trade Minister Budi Santoso led a community cleanup operation, personally collecting rubbish within the market.
The activity was conducted in response to President Prabowo Subianto’s directive on the Indonesia ASRI movement, and represents the implementation of ‘Bhayangkara Jakarta Asri’ or ‘Bang Jasri’ – the Metro Police’s flagship programme.
The cleanup operation began at 07:30 this morning. The police chief and ministers wore gloves and cleaned debris at the market.
Kombes Budi Hermanto, Head of Metro Police Public Relations, stated that the presence of the police chief, ministers, and hundreds of police personnel in this action represented total support for the President’s vision of creating humane public spaces. He affirmed that the national police force was ready to serve as the vanguard in raising awareness about the importance of orderly environments.
“This activity embodies the ASRI programme (Safe, Healthy, Clean, Beautiful) launched by President Prabowo. The Metro Police Chief has instructed all ranks to ensure that public environments are not only physically safe but also healthy and comfortable for the public to visit. We are starting with traditional markets as the heartbeat of the people’s economy,” Budi Hermanto said at the location on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
A total of 823 combined personnel were deployed to support the operation. These forces comprised the Metro Police, Brimob unit, Samapta Directorate, divisional police, TNI military, Satpol PP municipal police, and the Environmental Affairs and PPSU cleaning services, working shoulder-to-shoulder with local residents. This synergy demonstrated that the spirit of mutual cooperation was the key to achieving an ideal environment.
Minister Hanif stated that the cleanup was a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s directive on the Indonesia ASRI initiative. He also praised the Metro Police’s full support for the central government’s programme.
“Today, together with the Metro Police and the East Jakarta municipal government, this is an activity that must not be merely ceremonial – it must be carried out and embedded in our daily activities. As our President has instructed, we must conduct cleanups, cleanups, cleanups,” Hanif said.
After the assembly, they proceeded to sweep through the market lanes and clean remaining rubbish. They also occasionally greeted traders and enquired about the availability of basic goods ahead of Eid 2026.
Minister Hanif also asked traders about the market’s cleanliness standards.
“Is it cleaned like this every day or only when a minister is coming?” asked Hanif.
“Every day like this, sir. It’s cleaned every day,” replied a trader.
“Keep it clean, dispose of rubbish properly, so your goods will sell well,” Hanif said.
