The Metro Jaya Regional Police is cultivating corn to support national food self-sufficiency despite limited land. Deputy Chief of Police, Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, attended the Quarter I Simultaneous Corn Planting Raya event in Kampung Tembong Gunung, Sukamahi Village, Cikarang Pusat District, Bekasi Regency, on Saturday. ‘The Metro Jaya Police will continue to contribute through various innovations and cross-sector cooperation. It has utilised about 50 hectares of land for corn planting and will continue to be developed,’ he said in a Jakarta statement on Saturday. In addition to corn, the managed land is used for other crops to support the supply chain ecosystem of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program. ‘Today the Chief of Police led directly the Quarter I corn planting activities centred in Polda South Sumatra and followed by all Polda in Indonesia as part of the Police’s support for national food security,’ he said. In the first quarter of this year, the national target for corn planting reached more than 100,000 hectares. In 2025, the Police had successfully planted corn across 661,000 hectares out of a national target of 1 million hectares. ‘In 2026, the shortfall from the one-million-hectare target will be pursued to fulfil. If the target is achieved, the potential national corn production could reach or exceed 4 million tonnes,’ Dedi said. To reinforce the program, the Police are also cooperating with Bank Himbara to provide access to the People’s Credit with Business (KUR) to farmer groups and to provide financing via the Polri cooperatives to assist with seeds, fertilisers and farming equipment. The Chief of Police, Listyo Sigit Prabowo, attended the nationwide Quarter I 2026 corn planting in Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra, on Saturday, as a commitment to meeting the President’s national food self-sufficiency target. ‘This is, of course, a programme and commitment of the Police to ensure we truly can achieve the President’s target,’ Sigit said in a press release issued in Jakarta.
