Metro Jaya Police Extend Richard Lee's Detention Period Again
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Metro Jaya Police have once again extended the detention period of suspect Dr. Richard Lee (DRL) in the alleged consumer protection violation case related to beauty products and treatments. “From 5 May to 3 June 2026, the detention of suspect DRL has been extended. We have submitted this to the District Court (PN) for the extension of his detention,” said Head of the Public Information Sub-division of Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Andaru Rahutomo, in Jakarta on Tuesday. He explained that DRL’s detention was extended because, during the process of completing the case file, on 31 March 2026, investigators sent the initial case file to the Banten Attorney’s Office. “However, in the process, there was a P19 on 13 April from the Prosecutor’s Office. There, the investigators completed the deficiencies in evidence, physical evidence, witness statements, hence there were additional examinations and a series of other investigative actions to gather facts,” Andaru clarified. Then, on 23 April 2026, he said, the case file was sent back by investigators to the Banten Attorney’s Office. The investigators have fulfilled the directives from the Prosecutor’s Office. “We are waiting together for the developments, hopefully it will be completed soon, the investigation will proceed quickly,” Andaru stated. “If there is information on suspension, I convey that there is no suspension of detention for suspect DRL,” Andaru added. Previously, Metro Jaya Police had extended the detention period of the suspect in the alleged consumer protection violation case as well as beauty products and treatments by Dr. Richard Lee (DRL). “For Mr. DRL, there is an extension of detention carried out by investigators for the next 40 days. That is counted from 26 March to 5 May 2026,” said Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on 1 April 2026. He also revealed that Dr. Richard Lee’s case file had been handed over to the Banten Attorney’s Office on 31 March 2026, around 13:00 WIB. “We are still waiting regarding that case file, whether it has been declared complete or still needs fulfilment, so investigators took steps to extend the detention for the next 40 days,” Budi explained. Budi mentioned there are two reasons for detaining the doctor. “First, the suspect did not attend the additional examination on 3 March 2026 without giving a clear explanation. Instead, on that day, the suspect went live on his TikTok account,” Budi stated. The second reason is that the suspect also failed to report as required on 23 February 2026 and 5 March 2026 without a clear reason.
