Metro Jaya Police Arrest Fraudster Posing as KPK Employee
A joint team from the Metro Jaya Police’s Subdirectorate of General Criminal Investigations, along with Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators, arrested a woman suspected of committing fraud by posing as a KPK employee. “The woman is alleged to have defrauded the Deputy Chairman of House Commission III with initials AS in the Commission III room at the DPR building,” said the Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Saturday. He said the case came to light after the victim reported it to Metro Jaya Police on 9 April 2026. The report concerned alleged fraud committed by the perpetrator using the name of a law enforcement agency. “In uncovering this case, we arrested TH alias D (48). From the suspect, officers seized a KPK stamp, eight sheets of KPK-headed summons letters, two mobile phones, and four different identity cards,” Budi said. The incident began on Monday, 6 April 2026, when the victim was in the Commission III room at the DPR building. Subsequently, the victim handed over the money requested by the suspect on 9 April 2026. However, it was later discovered that the woman was not a KPK employee, prompting the victim to file a report at the Metro Jaya Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit. “The suspect approached the victim in the Commission III DPR RI room and claimed to be a KPK employee on orders from KPK leadership. The suspect then demanded Rp300 million from the victim,” Budi explained. Metro Jaya Police are still investigating the case and urge the public to report similar modus operandi immediately via the 110 service. Previously, Metro Jaya Police had already investigated reports of threats and extortion allegedly committed by individuals misusing the name of one of Indonesia’s public institutions. Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, explained that the reporter, a DPR member with initials AS, was demanded Rp300 million, leading him to report on Thursday, 9 April 2026, around 10:00 PM WIB. “There is also information from the KPK side regarding allegations of slandering KPK leaders. We will also investigate this information further; there is one report from a member of parliament regarding this matter,” Budi said in Jakarta on Friday (10/4). Meanwhile, the victim with initials AS, namely Ahmad Sahroni, the Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, confirmed that he had been extorted by someone claiming to be a KPK envoy who demanded Rp300 million to secure support from KPK leadership. According to Sahroni, the woman who claimed to be a KPK employee and met him in the parliamentary complex was a fake employee. Therefore, he immediately checked with the KPK about the employee. “I immediately checked with the KPK, and the KPK denied having such an envoy,” Sahroni said when contacted in Jakarta on Friday (10/4).
