Metro Jakarta Police Deploy Personnel to Secure Eid al-Adha Celebrations
Metro Jakarta Police have deployed comprehensive security measures to safeguard the Eid al-Adha celebrations in Jakarta, ensuring all religious activities proceed safely, orderly, and in a conducive environment. Deputy Chief of Public Relations for Metro Jakarta Police, Commissioner of Police Budi Hermanto, stated on Tuesday that officers will be on high alert from the Takbir night, Eid prayers, through to the slaughter and distribution of sacrificial meat. ‘We aim to ensure all activities proceed safely, orderly, and in a conducive environment,’ Hermanto said. For Eid prayers at Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (27 May), Metro Jakarta Police will deploy 350 joint personnel from the police force, Central Jakarta Police District, the City Government’s Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), and the DKI Jakarta Transport Authority. Hermanto explained the security focus at Istiqlal Mosque includes traffic management around the mosque, securing both interior and exterior areas, managing entry and exit routes for worshippers, and sterilising the site before prayers commence. Police have also been deployed to secure other Eid prayer sites and large-scale sacrificial meat distribution points. To protect vacant homes during the extended Eid holiday, Metro Jakarta Police will intensify patrols in residential areas, congested routes, crowded spots, and tourist attractions. ‘Our personnel are instructed to act humanely, professionally, and proportionately. We also urge the public to remain orderly, respect one another, and follow on-site officers’ instructions,’ Hermanto added. Metro Jakarta Police Chief, Commissioner General Asep Edi Suheri, extended Eid al-Adha greetings to Jakarta residents and surrounding areas. ‘May the spirit of sacrifice, sincerity, and social concern strengthen our brotherhood and unity in keeping Jakarta safe, comfortable, and conducive,’ he said.
