METI Strengthens Acceleration of Transition and National Renewable Energy Development
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI) Norman Ginting stated that his organisation is committed to strengthening and guiding the acceleration of the national energy transition and the development of new renewable energy (EBT). “METI will continue to strengthen its role as a strategic partner to the government in driving a directed and impactful national energy transition,” Norman said in his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. Norman, who also serves as Director of Projects & Operations at Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), expressed readiness to tighten cross-stakeholder collaboration in supporting Indonesia’s clean energy strategic agenda. He also assured that METI will be a strategic partner to the government in delivering more directed, inclusive, and impactful EBT development. The energy transition is viewed not only as an emissions reduction agenda but also as an opportunity to strengthen energy independence and promote national economic growth based on clean energy. “The development of new renewable energy must become the foundation of Indonesia’s energy resilience and independence, while also opening up new economic growth opportunities, the creation of green jobs, and the strengthening of national industry and technology capabilities,” Norman said. Moving forward, Norman wants METI to become a collaborative platform capable of accelerating various national EBT strategic agendas, from the development of the 100 GW PLTS, the implementation of E20 bioethanol, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), geothermal, biomass, co-firing, waste to energy, to various other clean energy initiatives. According to him, the development of these sectors is crucial for strengthening national energy resilience while reducing dependence on fossil energy. In addition to promoting EBT projects, METI is also directed to take a more active role in supporting the growth of the national clean energy industry ecosystem. “Through this approach, Indonesia is expected not only to become a technology market but also to develop as a developer, producer, operator, and innovator of competitive clean energy technology,” he said. Norman also emphasised that EBT development should deliver broader economic impacts through the creation of green jobs, enhancement of human resource competencies, and strengthening of domestic supply chains and industries. “With this approach, the energy transition is expected not only to be oriented towards environmental targets but also to create added value for national economic growth,” he stated.
