Meta reportedly plans to cut 20 per cent of workforce
Meta is reported to be planning to reduce approximately 20 per cent of its total workforce, according to sources cited by Reuters in a report published by Engadget.
The Engadget report published on Saturday, 14 March, stated that according to the Reuters sources, the timing of the redundancies and the number of employees affected have not yet been determined.
Meta’s top executives have instructed “other senior leaders” to begin “planning how to reduce the number of employees,” according to the Reuters report.
However, a Meta spokesperson described the report as “speculation concerning a theoretical approach.”
Based on the company’s latest financial statements, Meta’s workforce totalled 78,865 employees as of 31 December 2025.
In the same period, the company reported revenue of nearly 60 billion US dollars (approximately 1.014 trillion rupiah) in the fourth quarter and over 200 billion US dollars (approximately 3.392 trillion rupiah) for the full year 2025.
Large-scale redundancies are not new to Meta. In early 2026, the technology giant cut approximately 1,000 employees, primarily in the Reality Labs division responsible for developing virtual reality technology and metaverse projects.
Meta also conducted redundancies affecting approximately five per cent of its total workforce in early 2025, following smaller layoff waves during that period.
Meanwhile, Meta continues to increase investment in artificial intelligence technology.
Meta is reportedly injecting substantial funds to acquire several artificial intelligence start-ups, including Moltbook, a social network designed for AI agents, and Manus, which focuses on developing AI agents for automating various tasks.
