Meta has begun opening its Ray-Ban Display smart glasses platform to third-party apps and games. The move aims to give the AI-powered wearable more functionality beyond Meta’s built-in features.

Meta previously introduced Ray-Ban Display as a premium smart glasses with an integrated screen and AI support. The device is priced at around US800oraroundRp13million(exchangerateRp16, 300perUS).

Since its release, Meta has added features such as a built-in teleprompter and a virtual handwriting feature. However, the device’s capabilities are seen as limited because much of the user experience still depends on Meta AI services.

Meta says developers can use a dedicated toolkit called the Meta Wearables Device Access Toolkit to present various UI elements such as text, images, buttons, lists, and even video on the glasses’ display.

For web-based apps, developers can use common technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This approach makes iOS, Android, and web developers easier to bring their apps to the Meta wearable platform.

In addition to productivity apps, Meta is also starting to bring games to the device. Some initial games announced include ‘GOAT’ and ‘2048’.

The games can be controlled using the Meta Neural Band, a wristband based on electromyography (EMG) that can read the wearer’s hand muscle signals to control the device via small finger and wrist movements.

This move comes amid rising competition in AI wearable devices from other tech companies such as Google, Apple, and Snap.

Meta itself is scheduled to host the Meta Connect developer conference again in September 2026, focusing on AI, wearables, and virtual reality.
