The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has taken firm action by issuing a second summons letter to two global technology giants, Meta and Google, on Thursday (2/4/2026). This step was taken after both failed to meet the first summons for an inspection on compliance with child protection rules in the digital realm.

The inspection focuses on the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection, known as PP Tunas. Kemkomdigi assesses that platforms under Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Threads) and Google (YouTube) have not yet met safety standards for child users in Indonesia.

Director General of Digital Space Supervision at Kemkomdigi, Alexander Sabar, revealed that Meta and Google previously cited the need for internal coordination, requesting a postponement of the inspection schedule.

“Today, we have issued the second summons letter to the relevant parties. According to the provisions, summons can be made up to a maximum of three times before sanctions are imposed,” Alexander emphasised in a press statement in Jakarta.

The government stresses that every day of delay extends the security risks to children on those platforms. Kemkomdigi demands real commitment, not just administrative excuses.

“Every delay prolongs the risks faced by children in the digital space. Therefore, we demand concrete and timely compliance from all platforms, including global ones,” he added.

Based on Minister of Communication and Digital Regulation No. 9 of 2026, this non-compliance carries serious consequences. If Meta and Google still do not show good faith up to the third summons, the government has prepared a series of administrative sanctions.

These sanctions start from written reprimands, temporary access suspension, to the most extreme action of access disconnection or platform blocking in Indonesia’s jurisdiction.

“This summons is part of the process. If obligations are not fulfilled, the enforcement mechanism will proceed according to applicable provisions,” Alexander concluded.
