Jakarta — Coordinating Minister for People’s Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, known as Cak Imin, has delivered a message to the newly appointed members of the National Zakat Board (Baznas) for the 2026-2031 term.

Cak Imin congratulated Dikdik Sodik Mudjahid on his appointment as the new chairman of Baznas, who will assume his duties beginning this year.

“Congratulations to Pak Sodik Mudjahid on becoming the new chairman of Baznas. We hope that this new spirit will also bring our collaboration to greater productivity in the days ahead,” said Cak Imin during the Selasar Hangat (Warm Corridor) programme for interfaith harmony held at Jakarta International Velodrome in East Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Addressing the new chairman, Cak Imin expressed his hope that zakat, infak and sedekah would not remain merely charitable activities. He noted that zakat could be leveraged as a solution to help poor communities become self-sufficient and move up the economic ladder.

“We encourage all our people to improve their status, to become empowered and self-reliant. We care for those living in poverty, whilst simultaneously encouraging them to become a source of strength and empowerment,” he said.

According to Cak Imin, solving the problem of extreme poverty in Indonesia cannot be accomplished if the state acts alone.

“We must address all of this as comprehensively as possible. The government, through its budgetary resources, will certainly continue to work hard to stimulate the economy, provide social protection and provide solutions, but this is not sufficient,” he stated.

Cak Imin reminded the gathering of the religious message taught by every faith, that each follower must rise from adversity.

“No single religion emphasises passive resignation. All religions encourage a spirit of self-reliance and standing on one’s own feet,” he concluded.
