About 3,000 participants from various segments of the community took part. The event was attended by officials from Forkopimda and local figures, including Febriadi, Regent’s Expert Staff for the Meranti Islands; Jani Pasaribu, Chair of Commission II of the Meranti Islands Regional House of Representatives; Ricky Makado, the Meranti Islands District Attorney; Major Inf Rusli Dalimunthe of the 03 Bengkalis Territorial Military Commander; Muhammad Fahri, Head of the Meranti Islands Transportation Service; Datu Seri Afrizal Cik, Chair of the LAMR Meranti Islands; Wakapolres Kompol Detis Mayer Silitonga; and other senior police officials and members of the public. The Meranti Islands Police Resort Chief AKBP Aldi Alfa Faroqi said the Fun Night Run Go Sprint Go Green was not merely a sporting event but also a means to strengthen the bond between the police and the community. ‘This event is not just a sporting occasion but a moment to strengthen silaturahmi, boost the spirit of brotherhood, and foster concern for health and the environment,’ Aldi said in a statement on Sunday (8 March 2026). He stressed that through the event, the Police want to show that the police are friends of the people who always provide positive spaces for the younger generation. He noted that sport also plays an important role in shaping the character of young people, instilling discipline, hard work, sportsmanship, honesty and a spirit of perseverance. The Chief also expressed gratitude to the Meranti Islands Regency Government, Forkopimda, the Riau Malay Customary Council (LAMR), the TNI-Polri, the organising committee and all parties supporting the event. ‘Thanks to everyone who supported this event so that it could run well and merrily,’ he said. He reminded all participants to uphold sportsmanship during the race, prioritise safety by following the organisers’ instructions, and keep the environment clean in the Go Green spirit. The sprint race categories were 50 metres and 75 metres, with elimination rounds until winners were determined in each category. The event, part of the Riau Police Chief’s initiative to support the Green Policing programme, received a very positive response from the public. The enthusiasm of participants was evident in thousands of residents who filled the venue. Beyond being a sporting event, the activity was also seen as a positive alternative activity for the community during Ramadan, and it helped contribute to a conducive security and public order situation. The event concluded at around 00:30 WIB with prize presentations to the winners. Throughout the event, the situation was reported as safe, orderly and conducive thanks to the security provided by Meranti Islands Police Resort personnel together with relevant authorities.
