Mental patient found dead

BENGKULU, South Sumatra: Melyana, a patient from the Bengkulu
Mental Hospital, was found dead in a dried well on Saturday,
Antara reported.

Police sources said the 30-year-old woman, a resident of Ujung
Pulau village, Lahat regency, might have committed suicide, given
that she was found with a cloth noose around her neck that was
tied to a nearby tree.

The news agency reported that Melyana had been under treatment
for 40 days and was due to be released from the hospital. She
went missing on Friday. Another patient, who was about to dump
garbage into the well, found her on Saturday.

Bengkulu chief police, Lt. Col. V. Subagio, said the body had
been taken to Bengkulu Hospital and, later, sent home. Police are
investigating the case. (swe)
