Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of House of Representatives Commission I Amelia Anggraini has assessed that Indonesia's appointment as Deputy Commander of the International Stabilization Force (ISF) for the Gaza mission in Palestine reflects global confidence in the professionalism of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the credibility of Indonesian diplomacy.

She said the appointment represents Indonesia's diplomatic and humanitarian commitment to supporting international peace efforts and assisting the recovery of the deeply concerning humanitarian situation in Gaza.

"This is not merely a military mandate, but a humanitarian and stabilisation mandate," Amelia said in Jakarta on Friday.

Furthermore, she noted that Indonesia's readiness to deploy up to 8,000 TNI personnel demonstrates a significant responsibility and tangible contribution towards creating sustainable stability, providing protection for civilians, and supporting post-conflict reconstruction programmes.

According to her, the role also strengthens Indonesia's position as a nation actively engaged in maintaining world peace through non-combat contributions, focusing on humanitarian, medical, and security aspects.

This step, she said, is not only consistent with Indonesia's long tradition of participation in international peacekeeping missions, but also constitutes concrete evidence of the nation's solidarity in helping achieve just and sustainable peace in Palestine.

"We support the government's measures, whilst emphasising the importance of parliamentary oversight to ensure the mission proceeds in accordance with the constitutional mandate and national interests," she said.

Previously, Indonesia became one of the first five member nations of the Board of Peace (BoP) to send personnel to the Gaza Strip, as announced by the International Stabilization Force (ISF).

"I am pleased to announce that the first five countries that will send personnel to serve in the ISF are Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, and Albania," said ISF Commander Major General Jasper Jeffers during the inaugural head-of-state level meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington DC on Thursday morning local time.

As monitored through the White House online broadcast in Jakarta on Thursday evening, Jeffers also revealed that Egypt and Jordan are two Board of Peace member nations willing to provide training for the Gaza police force that is to be established.
