Former President and General Chairwoman of PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri attended the Singgasana Seni Bung Karno event held at the Bali Beach Convention Center in Sanur on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

Megawati arrived at the venue under tight security and was greeted by party officials, community leaders, and invited guests. Her presence received a warm reception, given her reputation as a figure consistently dedicated to preserving and disseminating the teachings of Bung Karno, who was also her father.

Bali Governor Wayan Koster stated: “This is the first time this event has been held and it will continue. Bali is the starting point, and in the future it will be held in various other cities. Evaluations will be conducted from here to improve the next editions.”

“We welcome the presence of Ibu Megawati at the Singgasana Seni Bung Karno event. This is a very positive activity to preserve and strengthen Bung Karno’s thinking,” said Koster, the Head of PDI Perjuangan’s Bali Regional Representative Council.

Koster emphasised that the agenda was purely a forum for ideological reflection and strengthening national values, particularly the teachings of Indonesia’s Proclaimer, Sukarno. “There is no other agenda. This is purely an ideological activity, a reflection of Bung Karno’s thinking, and a strengthening of national spirit,” he stressed.

Beyond its artistic dimensions, the event also served as a tribute to Bung Karno’s artistic appreciation, known for his considerable interest in art, culture, and national identity.

At the event, Megawati was accompanied by her son, Prananda Prabowo. Also present were Bali Vice Governor I Nyoman Giri Prasta and several regional heads from Bali.

The event, initiated by Mahagaya Pagelaran Persona (MPP), combined various elements of art and creative economy. Visitors were presented with fashion shows, musical performances, exhibitions of Balinese small and medium enterprise products, and food bazaars from micro, small and medium enterprises.

Event organiser Nancy Prananda explained that the activity was designed as a space for local designers to showcase works inspired by regional cultural richness. She noted that each future event would highlight the distinctive character of the host city.

In this inaugural edition, 20 fashion designs were presented, comprising 10 men’s designs and 10 women’s designs. Some collections also featured ecoprint techniques resulting from collaboration with micro, small and medium enterprises supported by MPP.

Through this event, organisers hope to encourage the growth of culture-based creative industries whilst strengthening the role of art as part of national identity and people-centred economy.
