JAKARTA – Two days before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, meat prices at Kramat Jati Market in East Jakarta have experienced an increase. Nevertheless, public demand remains high to meet festive needs.

Based on observations at the location on Thursday (19/3/2026), buying and selling activities are still bustling. Several traders continue to serve buyers crowding the meat stalls despite the price surge.

One trader, Dahlan, stated that the current meat price reaches around Rp150,000 per kilogram, up from about Rp130,000 per kilogram previously.

“The increase isn’t much, because as Eid approaches, prices are bound to rise, with high demand but supply not coming in quickly,” Dahlan explained when met on Thursday.

“Now, from what I see, alhamdulillah, both imported and local stocks are almost finished. Ahead of Eid, it remains busy. Alhamdulillah,” Dahlan added.

On the other hand, buyers continue to come despite facing the price hike. One buyer, Tri, admitted to being accustomed to the spike in food prices ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

“For Eid, prices go up. Like meat, shallots, spices—they’re definitely going to rise. Vegetables not so much. Well, what can you do? Even if it’s expensive, people still look for it,” she said.

To cope with the price increase, Tri chooses to reduce the amount of meat purchased and replace it with more affordable protein sources, such as chicken.

“Yes, just reduce it, then replace with chicken, even though the price has risen, it’s still affordable; chicken is around Rp50,000 per kilogram,” she explained.
