Measles Outbreak Spreads in Dompu, Local Government Does Not Declare Public Health Emergency
Measles cases in Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), have increased throughout 2026. The Dompu District Health Office has documented 216 suspected cases distributed across all subdistricts. However, the regional government has not declared a public health emergency status (KLB).
“The increase in cases compared to this year is higher than in previous years. We have not declared an emergency,” said Mariam Ulfa, Head of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) at the Dompu District Health Office, to detikBali on Wednesday (11 March 2026).
Ulfa explained that the hundreds of suspected cases are spread across eight subdistricts in Dompu. The highest number of cases was found in Dompu Subdistrict with 96 suspected cases, followed by Woja with 66 cases, Manggelewa with 18 cases, Hu’u with 10 cases, Kilo with 10 cases, Pajo with 8 cases, Kempo with 7 cases, and Pekat with 1 case.
Measles patients are being treated at health centres in their respective subdistricts, as well as at Dompu General Hospital and Manggelewa Pratama Hospital.
“On average, patients are six years old and below. To date, no deaths have been reported,” Ulfa clarified.
Ulfa stated that Dompu Regency is currently implementing measles transmission prevention measures through outbreak response immunisation (ORI) conducted on a large scale in specific vulnerable areas and populations.
ORI, Ulfa continued, aims to increase immunisation coverage to 95 per cent to achieve herd immunity in children aged 9-59 months. Currently, 400 vials of vaccine or approximately 4,000 doses are available.
“ORI aims to control the outbreak, reduce morbidity rates, and prevent deaths from vaccine-preventable diseases. The measles ORI is being conducted for 9 to 59-month-old children totalling 25,705 children across Dompu Regency,” she said.
