MBG Fried Rice and Pickles Suspected of Poisoning Hundreds of Students in Demak
Hundreds of students are suspected of being poisoned by the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) menu from the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) of Yayasan Khidmatul Ummah Madani in Pilangwetan Village, Kebonagung Subdistrict, Demak. The MBG menu served included fried rice and pickles.
The Regional Coordinator (Korwil) of SPPG Demak Regency, Muzani Ali Shodiqin, stated that the menu served by SPPG on Saturday (18/4) included fried rice, fruit, and milk.
“The menu distributed yesterday included fried rice, then fried eggs, fried tofu, cucumber and carrot pickles. The fruit was oranges, and there was milk,” said Muzani when met by detikJateng at the SPPG of Yayasan Khidmatul Ummah Madani on Sunday (18/4/2026).
Muzani explained that SPPG routinely distributes 1,484 portions of MBG in stages to several villages. Besides Pilangwetan Village, he said there were no complaints of poisoning in Prigi Village and Solowire Village.
“There are three stages of distribution. The first was sent to Prigi Village and Solowire Village, Kebonagung. There were no complaints, no issues at all,” Muzani revealed.
In Pilangwetan Village, Muzani stated that not all schools receiving MBG from SPPG experienced poisoning symptoms.
“Then, the distribution to the Pilangwetan area also had several schools that did not experience similar incidents,” said Muzani.
“Only in that area, at MA and MTS Yasua schools, as well as SMPS IT and MA Hidayatul Mubtadiin, there were complaints of stomach pain and diarrhoea like that. The incident was only known this morning,” he added.
Muzani conveyed that those four schools received a total of 550 MBG portions. From that number, 110 children experienced poisoning symptoms.
“So these four schools total 550 portions, but 110 people were affected by the symptoms, and 95 were taken to the hospital,” explained Muzani.
Besides for students, the menu of fried rice, fried eggs, fried tofu, cucumber and carrot pickles, oranges, and milk was also given to group B3 beneficiaries (pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers).
“The same menu for students and B3,” said Muzani.
