A atmosphere of mourning enveloped the military funeral ceremony for Major Infantry (Posthumous) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar at the Heroes’ Cemetery in Cikutra, Bandung, West Java, on Sunday (5/5). TNI Commander Agus Subiyanto described the deceased as one of the best soldiers who fell while carrying out a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. Agus emphasised that the overseas assignment entrusted to Major Zulmi was not an ordinary task, but rather a form of appreciation for the dedication and performance he demonstrated during his service. “The deceased was the best soldier who always received rewards from his unit for every task he carried out, and that reward took the form of a peacekeeping mission abroad in Lebanon,” said Agus after leading the funeral ceremony. He added that Major Zulmi’s passing represents a great loss to the TNI, especially to the elite Special Forces Command (Kopassus) unit where the deceased served. According to Agus, Major Zulmi fell while carrying out an escort task for the Combat Support Service Unit (CSSU) convoy in the peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon. Amid the grief, the TNI Commander assured that the state is present for the bereaved family. Various rights and compensations have been prepared, from insurance to assistance from the United Nations (UN). In addition, the deceased’s two children each receive scholarships worth Rp30 million, as well as a death benefit of around Rp200 million. Assistance was also provided directly by President Prabowo Subianto. “There is also that given by President Prabowo Subianto, which has been conveyed to me directly,” said Agus. He emphasised that all forms of compensation are part of the state’s appreciation for the service of the soldier who fell in carrying out his duties for the nation. “This is a form of the state’s appreciation for the deceased’s dedication,” he stated.
