Maybank Syariah Salam Festival Reaches 20 Regions Across Indonesia
Jakarta—PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk (Maybank Indonesia) through its Islamic Banking Unit (UUS) is this year distributing assistance valued at IDR 1.98 billion under its Maybank Syariah Salam Festival programme, a social initiative running from Ramadan through Eid al-Adha 1447 H. The initiative includes allowances for orphaned children, food aid during Ramadan and Shawwal, and distribution of sacrificial animals during the Eid al-Adha celebration.
Through this approach, the programme serves not only as a moment of sharing during the holy month, but also ensures social sustainability through the festival period. Last year, through its Islamic Banking Unit, Maybank Indonesia provided assistance to 2,000 orphaned and disadvantaged children across Indonesia.
“For this year, we are expanding the scope of this initiative into a series of social sustainability efforts encompassing three important moments in the Islamic calendar—Ramadan, Shawwal, and the Festival of Sacrifice—through community-based Ramadan events, Halal Bi Halal activities during Shawwal, and the celebration of Eid al-Adha,” said Romy H. Buchari, Director of Islamic Banking at Maybank Indonesia, in an official statement on Friday (27 February 2026).
The activities are being held in 20 cities to reach a total of 3,000 beneficiaries nationwide through partnerships with organisations including Baznas, Rumah Yatim, Lazismu, Universitas Muhammadiyah, Yayasan Baitul Maal Hidayatullah, and several other partners. The 20 cities include Banda Aceh, Medan, Padang, Palembang, Jambi, Jakarta, Bandung, Cirebon, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Bali, Malang, Makassar, Banjarmasin, Balikpapan, Samarinda, Tangerang, Kelapa Gading, and Depok.
Beyond presenting social initiatives, Maybank Syariah is strengthening the spirit of Ramadan through various financial solutions relevant to community needs, ranging from regular savings programmes with modest deposits to help plan pilgrimage to the Holy Land, vehicle and Umrah financing, and mortgage take-over facilities accompanied by shopping vouchers and Umrah discount vouchers.
Maybank Syariah also provides sharing features to facilitate digital zakat and donation disbursement, offers halal certification application programmes with cost reductions of up to 10% for business operators, and conducts literacy and education programmes in Sharia Wealth Management through Ramadan sermons on Metro TV alongside Prof. Dr. M. Quraish Shihab, M.A., as part of its commitment to supporting communities in strengthening religious practice, financial planning, and sustainable business development.
Through a combination of social programmes and Sharia financial solutions, Maybank aims to deliver a more comprehensive Ramadan experience—from preparing for worship, managing finances wisely, to helping others. With a collaborative approach working alongside local partners, transparent management of charitable funds and zakat, and support for Sharia digital innovation, Romy emphasised that the spirit of Ramadan is not merely a spiritual moment but an opportunity to deliver real, measurable, and sustainable social impact for communities in Indonesia and the region.
At the regional level, Maybank Group through Maybank Islamic is also conducting a Regional Ramadhan Relief programme, distributing assistance packages to 14,546 families spread across 13 countries during Ramadan 1447 H valued at RM 3.77 million (approximately IDR 16.29 billion). The assistance packages consist of basic necessities such as rice, cooking oil, flour, sugar, and other essential food items typically needed during Ramadan.
Mohamad Yasin Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Islamic, stated that Maybank Islamic remains committed to delivering initiatives that benefit all segments of society, both through social programmes and financial solutions under the Regional Ramadhan Relief programme.
“The continuity of this programme year after year reflects our long-term commitment to helping ease the burden on families in need as they welcome Ramadan,” he said.
Beneficiaries of the assistance this year include 7,600 families in Malaysia, 1,000 families in the Philippines, 2,500 families in Singapore, 770 families in Indonesia, and thousands of other families in Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Myanmar, Dubai, and Palestine. The Regional Ramadhan Relief is a flagship programme of Maybank Group and Maybank Islamic Berhad as part of its long-term commitment to supporting low-income families in welcoming the holy month of Ramadan.
Since its introduction in 2013 through 2026, the RRR programme has distributed nearly RM 25 million (approximately IDR 108.4 billion) in food assistance to 133,552 families and individuals living in vulnerable conditions. Funding for the activities is sourced from charitable funds managed by Maybank Indonesia and zakat funds from Maybank Islamic, managed transparently and accountably as part of a long-term agenda implemented consistently for over five years.
This step also aligns with the bank’s mission of “Humanising Financial Services,” which focuses on delivering direct benefits to communities, particularly those in need. This represents the institution’s commitment to implementing good governance whilst supporting the ESG agenda, particularly in the social dimension and community empowerment.
