Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ride-hailing company Maxim Indonesia has partnered with the Cheshire Foundation Indonesia to expand support for people with disabilities, especially those with physical impairments, including through transport assistance and commission-free partnership opportunities for disabled drivers.

Maxim Indonesia’s Director of Development, Dirhamsyah, said during the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the Cheshire Foundation Indonesia in Jakarta on Wednesday that the collaboration aims to promote more inclusive economic independence for people with disabilities, given that their labour force participation rate remains below the national average.

“Through this partnership, we want to open more opportunities for people with disabilities to live independently and develop their potential,” Dirhamsyah said.

As part of the collaboration, Maxim provided travel credits worth Rp18 million to the Cheshire Foundation Indonesia to support the mobility of the foundation’s beneficiaries.

“The commission-free programme and social protection are our investment in creating equal opportunities amidst the development of the digital economy. These partners will receive special commissions. Unlike regular partners who are charged commissions between 8 and 15 percent, disabled partners from the Cheshire Foundation will be given a very small commission, from zero to one percent,” Dirhamsyah said.

During the MoU signing, Maxim also showcased vehicles that have been modified to support the needs of disabled drivers, ranging from adjustments to the accelerator and brake pedals on four-wheeled vehicles to seat modifications on two-wheeled vehicles.

Previously, the company also introduced several accessibility features, such as TalkBack support for blind users, a conversation feature for passengers with hearing impairments, and special notifications to drivers when passengers require additional assistance.

“This partnership is very meaningful because it opens wider access for people with disabilities to move around, work, and live independently. We greatly appreciate Maxim’s commitment to providing more inclusive opportunities for all,” he added.

According to 2022 data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), there are approximately 22.97 million people with disabilities in Indonesia, or about 8.5 percent of the total population. The labour force participation rate for people with disabilities was recorded at 44 percent, still below the national average of 69 percent.
