Mataram Municipal Government Deploys 325 Sanitation Workers to Manage Ogoh-Ogoh and Takbir Celebrations Waste
The Environmental Health Agency of Mataram City (DLH), West Nusa Tenggara Province, has deployed 325 sanitation workers to manage waste from the ogoh-ogoh parade and takbir celebration on 1 Syawal 1447 Hijri/2026.
Head of Mataram City’s DLH, H Nizar Denny Cahyadi, announced the measure in Mataram on Monday as a precautionary step to maintain city cleanliness during the two consecutive major religious celebrations.
“We have deployed 325 sanitation workers to handle the potential waste accumulation following the ogoh-ogoh parade and takbir night,” he said.
During both evenings, all personnel will work extended hours, including mandatory overtime for sanitation staff. This approach is necessary because the two major events are scheduled only one day apart.
Based on evaluations from previous years, the DLH predicts a significant increase in waste volume during both the ogoh-ogoh parade and takbir celebration. The ogoh-ogoh parade is estimated to generate approximately 6 to 7 tonnes of waste, whilst the takbir night is predicted to produce a slightly higher volume of 8 to 9 tonnes.
Additionally, as a form of community participation, the DLH will distribute plastic waste bags to event organisers for both the ogoh-ogoh parade and takbir celebrations.
Each banjar (traditional community unit) and youth mosque group has been urged to educate parade participants not to discard waste along the parade route and to collect rubbish in the provided plastic bags.
“We hope that the community or parade participants can independently collect waste to facilitate our management efforts,” said Mataram City’s DLH Head, Denny Cahyadi.
