The Mataram City Government (Pemkot) will deploy 325 sanitation officers to address waste issues during the ogoh-ogoh parade, takbir procession, and Eid al-Fitr celebrations. Waste generated from activities preceding Nyepi Day and Eid al-Fitr is estimated to increase by up to 9 tonnes.

“We will position officers as in previous years. Some at the ogoh-ogoh parade, takbir procession, and Eid al-Fitr. For example, during the ogoh-ogoh parade, our officers will sweep up waste after the parade,” said Nizar Denny Cahyadi, Head of the Mataram Environmental Services Office (DLH), on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Nizar stated there would be no additional personnel for waste management during the ogoh-ogoh parade through to Eid al-Fitr. According to him, the hundreds of personnel involved are sanitation officers from the Mataram DLH.

“We have approximately 325 personnel. Those are the ones we will deploy,” he added.

Nizar predicted that the amount of waste generated after the ogoh-ogoh parade in Mataram would be approximately 6–7 tonnes. Meanwhile, during the takbir procession, waste is estimated to increase by approximately 8–9 tonnes.

“For the ogoh-ogoh, it’s around 6–7 tonnes; the takbir procession is only slightly different, around 8–9 tonnes. (In essence) we will continue cleaning up waste at the end of the event,” he concluded.

The Mataram City Government has issued a Circular Letter (SE) Number 100.3.4.3/877/SETDA/II/2026 regarding the implementation of Chinese New Year activities through Nyepi, the Balinese Hindu New Year of Saka 1948. The city government has appealed to residents to celebrate the ogoh-ogoh parade simply and to send one parade participant per banjar (traditional neighbourhood association), with approximately 76 banjars participating.

In the next section, the Mataram City Government has appealed for parade participants to remain orderly and to refrain from using amplified sound systems, carrying sharp weapons, or consuming alcohol during the ogoh-ogoh parade.

The parade will take place from 09:00 to 16:00 Western Indonesia Time (Wita). In the next point, the maximum height of ogoh-ogoh is 4 metres or must not exceed the height of electrical cables and other communication cables.

“Ogoh-ogoh parade participants must originate from the administrative area of Mataram City. Meanwhile, the fire war performance is expected to be completed by 17:30 Wita,” as stated in the circular signed by Mataram City Mayor Mohan Roliskana.
