The Mataram City Government (Pemkot Mataram) has allocated a budget of Rp 64 billion for poverty eradication in 2026. The poverty alleviation budget this year is confirmed to rise significantly compared to the previous year, which stood at Rp 54 billion.

The Secretary of the Regional Secretariat (Sekda) of Mataram City, Lalu Alwan Basri, revealed that the budget will be allocated to several priority programmes. These include education programmes, training, socialisation, and community social assistance.

“This year’s budget is larger; last year it was around Rp 54 billion. We have accumulated a total of around Rp 64 billion. There is an increase,” he said on Thursday (16/4/2026).

To reduce poverty rates, Pemkot Mataram is not only intervening in people’s incomes but also addressing basic infrastructure, which is the root of the poverty problem.

“Poverty is not just an income issue, but it is related to uninhabitable houses (RTLH) and sanitation. For RTLH this year, our target is 533 units,” Alwan explained.

In addition to allocating a budget of Rp 64 billion for poverty eradication, Pemkot Mataram has also budgeted Rp 44 billion for stunting prevention this year. With a target reduction of around 5 per cent.

“For stunting eradication, many interventions will be involved. We ask the Health Agency and the Family Planning, Population Control, and Family Welfare Agency (DP2KB) to integrate their programmes with central government programmes. Just like poverty and unemployment handling. We will then hold a special coordination meeting to see what our intervention targets are this year. It’s still the first quarter,” he concluded.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), when viewed by place of residence, in the period September 2024-2025, the number of poor urban residents increased by 11,200 people.
