Mataram City Cuts Officials' Fuel Budget by 50%, Public Services Unaffected
The Mataram City Government has cut fuel budgets for officials by up to 50% as a step towards energy efficiency. This policy targets routine spending without disrupting public services.
“We have calculated the fuel cuts. We have asked colleagues at the Regional Financial and Asset Agency to map out a reduction in fuel usage, at least 50%. This is for routine fuel,” said the Head of the Regional Financial and Asset Agency of Mataram City, Muhamad Ramayoga, on Monday (4/5/2026).
He assured that this efficiency measure does not affect public service sectors. Operational vehicles used for public services will continue to run normally.
“All service-oriented agencies will not be cut. What we are cutting by 50% is routine spending. For example, the department head’s car, secretary, echelon III,” he added.
Despite the significant cuts, Ramayoga ensured that fuel efficiency will not impact service vehicles. This includes waste services at the Mataram Environmental Agency, river and ditch waste services at the Public Works and Public Housing Department, health services at community health centres, and many more.
“For example, services at the Civil Registry, which use two-wheeled vehicles to serve the public, will not be cut. For village offices, the village head’s motorbike will be cut, but three-wheeled vehicles (for waste transport) and others will not be cut,” he emphasised.
Ramayoga revealed that the fuel budget for civil servants of Mataram City Government in 2025 reached Rp 20 billion. However, this year’s budget for civil servants’ fuel has been reduced by Rp 3-5 billion from the Rp 20 billion allocation in 2026.
“The total is Rp 20 billion. If efficiency is applied at 50%, it should be Rp 10 billion, but since service sectors cannot be cut, the savings will likely be around Rp 3 billion to Rp 5 billion,” he stressed.
Previously reported, several Mataram City Government officials have started cycling or pedalling to the office simultaneously. This cycling policy aims to support fuel efficiency.
The Secretary of Mataram City, Lalu Alwan Basri, revealed that the policy of using bicycles by city government officials has been agreed upon collectively. The policy has been implemented since early April 2026.
“Please, whether using electric bicycles (allowed), or regular bicycles, it’s fine. The important thing is efficiency and environmentally friendly,” Alwan said previously.
