That tradition is Sekura Cakak Buah, a mask festival that is not merely an annual celebration but also a strong symbol of identity, togetherness, and the sustainability of the local community’s culture. In the warm atmosphere following Eid al-Fitr in Pekon Muara Jaya II, Kebun Tebu Subdistrict, the pulse of this tradition feels profoundly real. Laughter, jests, and the footsteps of Sekura participants blend into a harmony that depicts collective joy. Behind the masks worn, lies a long story of values, history, and identity passed down across generations. Sekura is no ordinary tradition; it is a meaningful cultural expression in which participants don masks of various shapes and characters, creating an atmosphere filled with mystery as well as joy. Within the anonymity of the masks, all differences seem to dissolve; social status, age, even backgrounds all merge into a single space of togetherness. This tradition is held every early Syawal, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan as well as the beginning of new togetherness. More than just a party, Sekura serves as a space for social reconciliation, where the community strengthens ties of kinship and rekindles the spirit of mutual assistance. West Lampung Regent Parosil Mabsus stated his pride in witnessing how the younger generation, particularly muli mekhanai (unmarried youth), in his region play a crucial role in preserving and enlivening this tradition. In fact, they have nearly become the main drivers in its organisation. For him, the involvement of the younger generation is not merely participation but a strong indicator that this culture still has a future. Amid the onslaught of popular culture and modern lifestyles. This phenomenon is a breath of fresh air amid concerns about the fading of local culture. Because, without the involvement of the successor generation, traditions would only become historical notes without life.
