Masjid Jami Al-Umary in Kelayu, Selong District, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), has the highest number of sacrificial cows for Eid al-Adha 1447 AH, with 40 cows. The mosque management facilitates worshippers through a savings scheme to purchase the animals.

This year, 40 cows were collected for sacrifice at Masjid Jami Al-Umary. The organising committee claims this is the highest among mosques across NTB.

“This year there are 40 cows. We are grateful for the extraordinary enthusiasm of the community to perform sacrifices at this mosque. Many have asked about our system in Kelayu for sacrifice and akikah. We are number one in NTB,” said Muhammad Yani, head of the sacrifice committee.

He explained that the method used to collect sacrificial animals is through a savings scheme, where the community can save monthly for a year.

“There are three methods of collection here. First, monthly savings over a year. Second, some collect funds for one cow directly. Third, individuals purchase a cow themselves,” Yani explained.

After slaughter, the meat will be distributed to 3,543 residents from two villages, Kelayu Utara and Kelayu Selatan, with each receiving one kilogram of sacrificial meat.

The Masjid Jami Al-Umary Kelayu sacrifice committee collaborates with veterinarians to check the animals’ health, ensuring the meat is safe for consumption.

“Veterinarians confirm there are no issues with the sacrificial animals, so the community can consume them without hesitation—it is guaranteed safe,” Yani said.

He noted the savings scheme has been running for 26 years, ensuring the number of sacrificial animals never decreases.

“We once had 56 cows, which has led many to ask about our methods to maintain community enthusiasm for sacrifice,” Yani added.
