MAS, KLM to expand codesharing pact
KUALA LUMPUR (AFX-ASIA): Malaysian Airline System Bhd and KLM
Royal Dutch Airlines will be expanding their existing codesharing
agreement with the new arrangement to take effect from the start
of the winter schedule commencing Oct 29, 2000, a Malaysia
Airlines statement said.
Currently, Malaysia Airlines operates a daily Kuala Lumpur-
Amsterdam service while KLM operates four times weekly on the
Amsterdam-Kuala Lumpur-Manila route.
With the expanded agreement, KLM will add three additional
roundtrip flights between Schiphol Airport and KL International
Airport.
With the additional flights, Malaysia Airlines and KLM will
jointly provide a twice-daily service on the Kuala Lumpur-
Amsterdam route.
Both airlines have also agreed to cooperate in air services
beyond the two hubs.
Malaysia Airlines will codeshare on KLM flights between
Amsterdam and Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, while KLM will
codeshare on Malaysia Airlines flights between Kuala Lumpur and
selected Australian and New Zealand cities.
Separately, Malaysia Airlines said its cargo handling unit
MASKargo will begin operations from Sharjah International Airport
in the United Arab Emirates effective Oct 28, 2000.
