JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Located at the edge of Jakarta, Marunda Beach in Cilincing continues to be a favourite recreational spot for residents. Despite its less organised condition compared to other commercial beaches, Marunda Beach remains crowded, especially on Saturdays and Sundays. Visitors usually come to enjoy the sea breeze while sitting in wooden gazebos owned by local vendors and watching their children swim in the sea. The condition of the seawater, which is not very clean and often littered with waste from other areas, does not deter residents from swimming.

A health therapy guide at Marunda Beach, Abdullah (52), said that since ancient times, the seawater in this area has been believed to cure various diseases. It is not surprising that to this day, many people from various regions still regularly come to Marunda Beach to undergo seawater immersion therapy.

Ahmad said that he has assisted people with stroke, pinched nerves, diabetes, and other ailments to undergo seawater immersion therapy at Marunda Beach. Most of the people who come for therapy are those who are tired of undergoing medical treatment.

“In the morning, they usually come for health therapy, such as symptoms of stroke, pinched nerves, diabetes, shortness of breath and all kinds, basically they are people who are tired of going to the doctor,” said Abdullah when interviewed by Kompas.com at the location, Wednesday (25/2/2026).

The seawater in the morning is believed to relieve various symptoms of diseases suffered by many people.

Abdullah said that there are no specific procedures that must be followed to undergo seawater immersion therapy. A person only needs to soak without much movement and occasionally dive into the water for one hour.

Abdullah said that many of the people he has assisted in seawater therapy have recovered from their illnesses.

“Many have recovered, their illnesses are various. It cannot be ascertained how many times, it depends on each individual,” he said.

One of the residents of Marunda, Mardwi (56), said that he regularly undergoes seawater immersion therapy when he is ill.
