Marriage registration
Marriage registration
From Kompas
Whatever my belief, I am sure God has created a great variety
of things on earth. I sympathize with Gumirat and Susi whose
marriage was not conducted in compliance with the religions
recognized by the state, so that they could not be registered at
the Marriage Registration Office.
I cannot imagine how I would feel if I belonged to the Baduy
ethnic community -- or any other ethnic group -- which adheres to
a religion other than that recognized by the government, and my
marriage was not recognized in my own country.
In fact, for generations the Baduy community and many other
ethnic groups have upheld the traditions and morals of the
country. How inconvenient to be a second class citizen in one's
own country. I wish this discrimination did not exist.
