Maritime mission leaves dock
UJUNGPANDANG, South Sulawesi: A goodwill mission involving 165
teenagers on two training vessels, the KRI Dewaruci and the KRI
Arung Samudra, left on Sunday for a 40-day voyage through
Indonesian territorial waters.
The mission, part of the celebrations commemorating
International Maritime Year '98, will visit Surabaya,
Ujungpandang, Palu and Bitung, Antara reported Monday. They were
seen off by the vice commander of Ujungpandang Naval Base, Capt.
Sutyasmo.
Among the participants are scouts, students of traditional
schools and marine high school students from Jakarta, Surabaya
and Semarang. The group consists of 130 boys and 37 girls.
The celebration's culmination will take place in Manado, North
Sulawesi, from Sept. 26 to Sept. 28.
Various sport competitions, including rowing, water skiing,
diving and sailing contests, will highlight the event.
