Manpower Ministry pushes OSH culture maturity to reduce workplace accidents
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) continues to encourage the maturation of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) culture as a strategic step to reduce workplace accidents and create a safe, healthy, productive, and competitive work environment.
Deputy Manpower Minister Afriansyah Noor stated that manpower development must not only focus on increasing productivity and industrial competitiveness, but also ensure every worker receives protection and can work safely, healthily, and with dignity.
Although the trend of workplace accidents shows a decline, he noted the risk remains a real challenge in the business and industrial world. Based on available data, the number of workplace accident cases recorded in 2024 was 462,241, while in 2025 it reached 319,382 cases.
He assessed that a more fundamental transformation is needed through the establishment of a safety culture embedded in organisational values, work behaviour, and daily leadership practices. “A mature safety culture will encourage safer work behaviour, more effective risk control, and the organisation’s ability to prevent accidents and occupational diseases. Therefore, increasing the maturity of safety culture must be a shared concern,” he said.
Afriansyah further explained that various studies show organisations with a higher level of safety culture maturity tend to have lower incident rates and better safety performance. He urged all stakeholders to follow up on assessment results by developing clear action plans, strengthening safety leadership, improving risk communication, enhancing human resource competencies, and conducting regular monitoring and evaluation.
“The success of improving safety culture maturity requires commitment from all parties. Companies, unit heads, workers, trade unions, and industrial estate managers must move together to build a strong and sustainable safety culture,” the Deputy Minister said. “By strengthening the occupational safety culture, we not only protect workers but also increase productivity, business sustainability, and the competitiveness of Indonesian industry,” he added.
