RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The GT World Challenge Asia 2026 is set to bring a distinctive flavor to Indonesia’s motorsport calendar, as the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit prepares to host not only professional racers but also “gentlemen drivers”, non-professional participants with diverse business backgrounds.
Scheduled for May 9–11 in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, the event is expected to showcase how motorsport can intersect with tourism and investment.
“These gentlemen drivers come from various business sectors, ranging from trade, services, hospitality, to entertainment,” President Director of Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA), Priandhi Satria, said in Jakarta on Monday, April 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
“Their presence in Mandalika opens up opportunities that go far beyond racing. MGPA sees this as a gateway to directly showcase the potential of The Mandalika and Indonesia to international business decision-makers,” he added.
Priandhi emphasized the uniqueness of the race, which attracts entrepreneurs who also compete behind the wheel.
“The positive impact is that by racing at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, these drivers – who are also businesspeople – not only experience the thrill of the track but also enjoy Lombok’s natural beauty and economic opportunities,” he assured.
“The hope is that this experience will encourage them to return as tourists, and even more importantly, as investors,” he explained.
Organizers hope the championship will strengthen Mandalika’s long-term strategy of integrating motorsport, tourism, and investment into a sustainable ecosystem. The event reinforces the circuit’s reputation as a world-class motorsport destination while serving as an effective promotional platform to attract high-value visitors and potential investors.
This marks the second time Mandalika hosts the GT World Challenge Asia. The 2026 edition will feature 23 race cars and 46 drivers from 17 countries, including China, Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Italy, the United States, Denmark, and Canada.
Over the race weekend, the event is expected to draw around 9,000 attendees, including spectators, invited guests, teams, and crew. For Mandalika, the championship is not only a motorsport highlight but also a showcase of Indonesia’s tourism appeal and investment potential to a global audience. ***
