Manan reappointed rector

BANDUNG, West Java: Minister of Education and Culture Wardiman
Djojonegoro swore in Manan P. Rukmana as rector of the Pajajaran
University for a second term yesterday.

In his speech, Wardiman reiterated the government's stand that
academic freedom should not be misused for political purposes,
saying that freedom should be understood strictly in an academic
context.

Bandung, known as one of Indonesia's intellectual centers, saw
numerous student demonstrations opposing some government policies
