Manager questioned for kicking employee

TANGERANG, West Java (JP): A Korean expatriate who allegedly kicked a female employee for rejecting an order was questioned by police in Jatiuwung district yesterday.

The questioning followed a protest against the expatriate, a production manager at a shoe factory, by dozens of young men from a youth organization.

Identified as Lee, the manager of PT Yoko Indomaju Jaya was reported to have kicked the backside of an employee, Meli, when she refused to clean the plant area as punishment for her absence.

Meli and colleague Asri were summoned Tuesday by Lee, who questioned their absence on Monday. Meli refused to accept Lee's punishment, insisting that she had already sent a notice to the personnel division.

"But suddenly, Mr. Lee kicked my backside," the worker said.

The workers, who are also members of the Young Generation of Kosgoro, a mass organization affiliated with the Golkar functional group, reported the incident to their local organization chairman.

Dozens of Young Generation members then marched to the factory on Jl. Raya Pasar Kemis to question Lee.

Police officers immediately rushed to the scene and took Lee out a back door to the Jatiuwung police station. (28/anr)
