Management of Heroes' Cemeteries Across Indonesia to Shift from Ministry of Social Affairs to Ministry of Defence Starting This April
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) stated that the management of Heroes’ Cemeteries (TMP) across Indonesia will shift from the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) to the Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) starting in April 2026.
“This transfer will naturally occur gradually, beginning with implementation at the field level from this April,” said Gus Ipul when met at the Kemensos office in Central Jakarta on Thursday (2/4/2026).
Gus Ipul mentioned that there are 217 TMP sites across Indonesia that will eventually be fully managed under the leadership of Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.
Gus Ipul explained that the process of transferring TMP management will take place over approximately the remainder of 2026.
The Social Affairs Minister acknowledged that managing TMP requires handling that goes beyond mere infrastructure maintenance.
“But more than that, it also concerns instilling values of heroism and patriotism to the wider community, especially future generations,” he said.
After relinquishing the management of TMP, Kemensos will focus on its primary duties and functions to enhance social assistance and protection for the welfare of the people.
“The Ministry of Social Affairs will then focus on matters related to its core duties and functions, namely improving social welfare through assistance related to social protection, social security, social rehabilitation, and social empowerment,” said Gus Ipul.
